"Grotesquely selfish" arsonist gets 2 years

An arsonist who torched his flat in a fit of rage showed a "grotesque disregard" for the lives of young children and an elderly deaf pensioner, a court heard. Samuel Dudley, 22, was jailed for four years at Canterbury Crown Court after the judge heard he deliberately disabled a fire alarm before using a lighter to set fire to his sofa, duvet and clothes.

If you're of a nervous disposition, or prone to fretting, this may not be for you. On the other hand, it may be just the thing to put your mind at rest. The Government has decided that it would be a good thing for us all to know just how much crime is going on in our neighbourhoods. The idea behind this is that once we have some hard facts at our fingertips, rather than hysterical scare-mongering from the media, we will be better able to tell the police what we need and want from them. Hmmm.

A CCTV camera has been installed on Herne Bay seafront to deter beach hut vandals - but only for six weeks. The temporary measure was put in place after concerns about vandalism and arson attempts were expressed. The seafront at Western Esplanade has long been a target for anti-social behaviour and criminal damage, with countless crimes reported in recent years.
