Life under the flight path

I attended your meeting at Chatham House School on Friday 25.11.11 and I was impressed to see so many like minded people ready to stand against Manston Airports plans, great meeting, great job done by all the speakers, keep up the good work.

I brought along a copy of a photo which I was asked to send to you. I live on a Mobile home park known as Smugglers Leap which is situated in a large chalk pit next to the Minster roundabout Ramsgate, this park is directly situated next to the flight path of planes coming into land from the Canterbury direction, I am supplying a photo of a 747 coming into land, the roof apex in this photo is my mobile home.

Coming into land this way is not so bad but when large planes take off over our direction the noise is considerably more and the thrust of the engines can be felt, indeed our mobile homes shake, I have no problem with Manston expanding if it is helping our local economy but if regular night flying is to become the norm then living in my home will obviously become impossible.

And to those people who say "well you chose to live there" I can only reply that some of us have no choice but to live in places like this indeed some of us are not as fortunate as people who can afford to move into large well insulated houses.

Have you never been offered sound insulation? If not, you need to contact TDC ASAP and ask about the sound-insulation scheme. They are supposed to fit special double-glazing and super-duper loft insulation to homes like yours.

err, no they are not igloo. In their latest night flight application, the number of dwellings that qualify for sound insulation are.......none.

They estimate that 78 homes will need it by 2018.

They say that the 30,000 people who get noise over 85 decibels will only get sound insulation if they are subjected to at least one night flight every night of the year.. 364 out of 365 nights is not good enough, so pray the planes come xmas day as well!

A resident has already looked into that one and was told Mobile homes do not qualify for the insulation, and anyway these homes are already pre insulated and mine is double glazed as is most of my neighbours, guess what it does not make that much difference, don't forget we do not have 4" walls with 2" cavities. and don't forget the edge of this site is only about 200 yards away from the main approach to Manston and so no amount of insulation is going to help.

I cannot believe that you are saying get sound-insulation. Have you looked at picture? The poor man is going to need more than a bit of lagging around his mobile home to keep out the noise!!
I live in an old Victorian Terrace near Herne Bay seafront and the noise is unbearable sometimes I have extra thick insulation in the loft and the house is fully double glazed. The night flights at 4.00am and 10.30pm wake ME up. How can this be happening??

I think it's about time to get nasty with TDC & frighten them a bit. How??
Well, for starters stop paying your council tax on time - make them incur costs trying to get payment until the very last moment & then pay. Do it every month.
Secondly, lets start action to get a banding/tax reduction.
Third, lets start getting some legal advice on health issues so they can be sued in the long term. I'm sure others could add to my list.
As far as insulation & glazing is concerned, frankly it won't help one damm bit. You just cannot hear the tv, radio, have a phone call, even inside the house, with the appalling racket.
