VOTE HERNE BAY

I want to represent YOU and Herne Bay, not a political party. As an Independent I will be free to vote in the interests of Reculver and Herne Bay, rather than voting on party lines.
I love this town. I want to see it develop and thrive as a seaside town that’s a great place to live and to visit.
I don’t want Herne Bay’s special sense of place to be lost through lack of care or insensitive development.

VOTE INDEPENDENT

I am not asking you to change your political loyalty - I am offering you another voice. You have 3 votes in this election - please use one of them to vote for me as an Independent voice speaking up for Herne Bay.
Some recent Council decisions have clearly been bad for the town. Closing the Visitor Information Centre, trying to close the Museum, and putting parking meters along the seafront were all bad ideas. The town’s councillors should have voted against these proposals, but not all of them did.

VOTE PHIL ROSE

After a career in IT, I moved to Herne Bay with my partner Rosalyn about 7 years ago. Now 49, I’m enjoying doing my bit for the town and developing websites for local groups.
Please help me to get Herne Bay’s voice heard at Canterbury City Council. As an Independent I can ask the questions that need answers, and can fight for the long- term good of the town, without being told to toe a party line.
I have already been hard at work to protect and enhance Herne Bay. I believe that “if something needs doing, get stuck in and help make it happen”.

My track record includes:
•    Leading the campaign that stopped the Council developing the Downs; united 1,181 people behind the village green application for the Downs - and I’m still campaigning for this;
•    Becoming chairman of the East Cliff Neighbourhood Panel (previously PACT), working with the Council, Police and other local groups on the day-to-day issues that people care about;
•    Setting up the Friends of the Downs, to work with the Council to agree a long-term maintenance plan for this naturally lovely open space (www. FriendsOfTheDowns.info);
•    Being Membership Secretary of the Friends of Herne Bay Museum, working to save this historical gem and secure it a bright new future;
•    Being instrumental in blocking the application to fly cargo planes all night over Herne Bay, Beltinge and Reculver (www.NoNightFlights.info);
•    Developing HerneBayMatters.com, a community website where local groups and societies can tell the world, for free, about the great things they’re doing.

I believe as an Independent councillor I could achieve more. Reculver and Herne Bay deserve someone who will fight their corner.

I WANT TO SEE:

•    Reculver ward and Herne Bay getting our share of the district’s resources.
•    Good value for money for the services we pay for.
•    Flourishing tourism bringing money and jobs into the town.
•    A pier to be proud of.
•    A renewed Museum that local people and visitors cherish.
•    The Downs registered as a village green.
•    A high quality physical environment for us all.

My priorities are: Reculver ward, Herne Bay, then Canterbury district... in that order. We must get the Council to do what’s right for Herne Bay, rather than only doing what’s right for Canterbury City.
