Sound-activated video recording

Tapping into the wisdom of crowds, and I know you're a wise lot...

We're VERY keen to set up sound-activated video recording systems along (and near) Manston's flight paths, particularly in Ramsgate and the surrounding area.

The idea is to be able to automatically capture movies of planes as they go past, or over (or over and over and over, in the case of training circuits).

At the moment, we don't care if this is an off-the-shelf solution, or some brilliant bodged together Heath Robinson-esque invention - so long as it works.

I don't think I would bother with sound activated video recording, but use something like virtual air radar for the time stamp, position and identification of the aircraft. The cost and complexity of setting up multiple, calibrated, audio/ visual recording units producing results that would stand up in a court of law make this a non runner.
Writing an app for a gps enabled smart phone that sent the message “this bloody plane is annoying me” might produce a better results. The reply could be the aircraft id and operator, as well as marking the report on a map. Most politicians understand number of pissed off voters, better than dB's.

for info only, not trying to sell anything.
